UNDP UAE holds the second national workshop of Youth Leadership Programme IIINov 4, 2017
On 4 November, UNDP Country Office held the second national workshop of the Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) 3 in Abu Dhabi.
The workshop brought together young Emiratis with the potential of becoming effective leaders in their communities. They were accompanied by one of the experts chosen to mentor the young YLP3 participants as they were refining their innovative solutions throughout the programme. It was an informative and interactive event, comprising presentations of the prototypes followed by constructive feedback discussions and a short lecture on leadership in innovation.
The prototypes developed by YLP3 cohort in UAE span across various areas within the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. They tackle such issues as mental health awareness, waste management system improvement, matching education with future market needs, promoting women’s entrepreneurship, and others.
Mosharaka, UNDP’s regional programme on gender equality and women’s empowerment launched the Youth Leadership Programme in 2015, based on the vision that young people are a key resource for solving the problems of development in the region. YLP was launched to support young men and women from across the region to explore innovative approaches to addressing sustainable development challenges.
This round, YLP aims to support and empower young change-makers to accelerate their innovative, impactful and sustainable development solutions, which could take the form of social enterprises, non-profits, NGOs, initiatives, or campaigns. With a special focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment, YLPIII participants work towards achieving SDGs in the Arab region.
The final national workshop will take place in the middle of November and best ideas will be chosen to represent UAE in YLP3 regional workshop that will take place in Egypt in early December. The finalists of the regional workshop will get global exposure, support to identify funding opportunities and will be presented a Changemaker’s Award.Contact information
