With the theme “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All” the UN International Day of Peace has showcased tolerance and camaraderie among those who attended the event at Gurudwara in Jebel Ali Village Dubai.
‘We all have a responsibility to promote tolerance, coexistence, harmony, peace, respect, safety and dignity. Tolerance is the backbone of all civilizations, religions and cultures. Peoples and nations need to keep connecting, as a key requisite to ensure the stability and prosperity of the world. I encourage all to work together to build more tolerant, peaceful and coexisting societies’ said by H.E. Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi.
The occasion was a success attended by H.E. Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Cabinet Member and Minister of State for Tolerance UAE, Mr. Frode Mauring, UN Resident Coordinator & UNDP Resident Representative for UAE, Oman & Qatar and H.E. Mr. Navdeep Singh Suri, Ambassador of India to UAE.
‘May this gathering bring us all closer together and enable us to cooperate into more constructive endeavors, while appreciating our own uniqueness and our friendships. Together, let us be role models and collaborate with the younger generation on both conventional and contemporary initiatives towards progressive peace. May we inspire everyone to do small acts of kindness, let us convert pressures into challenges – changing perspective from life’s pressures to growth opportunities to become better’ said by Surender Kandhari.
‘The International Day of Peace is an important occasion, as it is not only a reminder of how we should want to live, but also of how actually we should organize ourselves to solve differences. Together, we can work towards a better world not through fear, but through understanding, tolerance and compassion.’ remarked Frode Mauring of UNDP.
Diplomats, faith leaders, academia, senior youth students and business community composed the attendees who had the pleasure to hear speeches of reputable personalities. A video and production number about peace were also showcased.
The event was organized by Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) UAE and supported by the Minister of State for Tolerance in the UAE.
