Gurudwara Dubai to host UN International Day of Peace

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme for 2017 is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.” It honors the spirit of togetherness, a global initiative that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone.

Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) UAE and supported by the Minister of State for Tolerance in the UAE, will celebrate the International Day of Peace on Thursday, 14 September 2017 at the Gurudwara Jebel Ali Village, Dubai.

The gathering aims to showcase UAE’s inclusive diversity and spread tolerance of the vast differences within the country’s population. Moreover, it will instill a sense of “togetherness” in the society and encourage youth to work towards a better future.

The Chief Guest for the event is H.E. Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Cabinet Member and Minister of State for Tolerance UAE while the confirmed Guests of Honor are Mr. Frode Mauring, UN Resident Coordinator & UNDP Resident Representative for UAE, Oman & Qatar and H.E. Mr. Navdeep Singh Suri, Ambassador of India to the UAE.

Furthermore, 32 faith leaders, 20 diplomats from various countries, and 100 senior students are to be among the expected 500 attendees.


About Gurudwara

On 17th January 2012, the largest Gurudwara of Gulf region was declared open for over 50,000 devotees in UAE.  The Guru Nanak Darbar is a multi-storey facility spread over 100,000 sq.ft building area, located at the T- Junction of two large accessible roads in Jebel Ali Gardens Dubai. The ultra-modern Gurudwara is a rare piece of architectural design - a blend of modern and traditional building style. It welcomes all within its warm embrace, irrespective of caste or creed – bringing peace, solace, and hope. Services offered are Akhand Path Sahib, Sehaj Path, Sukhmani Sahib Path, Kirtan, Langar, Child Naming Ceremony, Child Amrit Ceremony, Engagement, Anand Karaj - Wedding Ceremony, Matrimonial Services, House Warming Prayer, Birthday or Anniversary Prayer, and Condolence or Memorial Prayer. Temple facilities are Meditation Room, Library that is also used for Kirtan Classes and Gurbani Santhiya Classes, and a 140-car-capacaity basement parking.
