Achim Steiner's congratulatory note

Jun 19, 2017

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the UN country team in UAE and on my own behalf, I wish to extend sincere congratulations to you on your appointment as the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). I would like to send my best wishes for you in performing the substantial duties of this significant position.

I am very delighted that your enduring years of experience and persistent efforts to nurture sustainability, economic growth and equality for the vulnerable have been well-praised. Your leadership will certainly help to bring the international community together for finding global responses to the complex developmental challenges of today.

The constructive international dialogue on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the needed work to achieve its goals have started over a year ago; still, there is room for further work in areas like climate change, education, gender equality, economic growth, sustainable communities, responsible consumption and production and many other serious challenges that require UNDP’s dedication and hard work.

On a different note, UNDP -represented by its country office in UAE- have been working closely in alignment with the national and regional actors in several areas including human development, clean energy, gender and youth empowerment.

We are confident that your influence will continue to encourage our proud tradition of involvement in worthwhile developmental causes, built on trust and respect between UNDP and the United Arab Emirates.

I wish you the best of success in your new responsibilities.

Yours sincerely,

Frode Mauring

United Nations Resident Coordinator a.i. and UNDP Resident Representative a.i. to the United Arab Emirates (covering the states of Oman and Qatar)
