Abu Dhabi Human Development Report
The report which endeavours to track the challenges facing the emirate “at a time of worldwide crisis” has called for Emiratis to have bigger families, observing that expatriates account for 75 per cent of the emirate’s population.
The ambitious report, for 2011/2012, was released by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economy and the United Nations Development Programme. It is the first report of its kind for the emirate and charts strengths and weaknesses within the Abu Dhabi community, focusing largely on the economy, education and people’s well-being.
The event marking the launch of the report saw high-level government officials in attendance including Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, minister of higher education and scientific research, Mariam Al Roumi, minister of social affairs, and Nasser Ahmad Al Suwaidi, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (DED).
